HOW WE WORK
ASSESSMENT
We will assess your body as a whole and show you how different areas of your body effect the injured part. The initial assessment is very thorough and may take up a significant part of your first visit.
What to expect : We will ask you a lot of questions and may ask you to remove some pieces of clothing to allow us to assess an area more carefully. If you are uncomfortable with this, please inform your physiotherapist.
What to bring: Your shorts and a singlet, x-rays/MRIs, running or sports shoes, referral letters and your health fund card. If it is a Workcover claim you will need your claim number and insurer contact details. If you have a Medicare EPC referral please bring your medicare card and debit card for rebate (please note that there is a gap payment with EPC referrals).
DIAGNOSIS
An accurate diagnosis allows us to understand the pathology and stage of your injury. It will help determine whether a referral to a medical specialist is required.
What to expect: You will have a good understanding of your injury and the stage of the pathology. If necessary you will be sent for further scans or referred to a medical specialist for further investigations. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have about your diagnosis.
ANALYSIS
Understanding WHY an area of the body is injured is an essential part of injury management. An injured area is often the ‘victim’ of a series of related problems in the body.
What to expect: We may video or photograph your movements patterns, look at your desk set up at work or look at your technique in your particular sport or hobby.
TREATMENT
We use a hands-on approach to manage the pathology of the area and restore normal movement patterns. What to expect Manual therapy includes massage and joint and neural mobilisations. We may offer to use dry needling as part of your treatment. If you are uncomfortable with acupuncture needles, please inform your physiotherapist. Strapping and bracing are often used to offload an injury.
REHABILITATION
The rehab program will be appropriate for the level of pathology and the stage of your injury. You will learn to manage your injury to prevent a re-occurrence. What to expect We will draw up a plan for your rehab program and go through the exercises with you in the clinic to ensure you understand them. We may record you doing them on your own phone or give you an exercise sheet to take home.
